“Stale lines” = games where the betting spread changed since Tuesday. The pool scores you against Tuesday’s number, so when the market has moved, you’re exploiting an outdated line.
Each strategy below shows its
expected yearly winnings for one entry (using the real prize ladder + the $675 weekly 6-for-6 bonus) and how often it
cashed (finished top-20) across 7 test years. One caution: results swing hard year to year — a strategy averaging a top-10 finish still landed ~77th in a bad season — so treat the dollar figures as ballpark and lean on the recommended upside + anchor
pairing rather than any single strategy.

Pick Strategies page for full details.
Stale Line Strategies
Pick games where the spread moved since Tuesday
★ Stale Lines — Underdogs, Wide Net
★ Recommended (the safety anchor). The biggest stale-line games, underdogs first, but casts a wider net by including smaller ½-point moves. Never blew up in 7 years and was the only strategy that thrived in 2024 (4th) when the rest crashed. Modest alone (~$1,600/yr) but the perfect complement.
Stale Lines — Underdogs, Skip Monday
Strong all-rounder. The 6 biggest stale-line games, underdogs first, with no Monday-night game forced in. High expected winnings (~$2,100/yr) and cashed 5 of 7 years.
Stale Lines — Decorrelated Wide Net (Top-3 Hunter)
Top-3 hunter. Same wide ½-point+ mover pool, but selected to fade the pool's SHARP CLUSTER — it picks the moved-line games the sharps are least likely to be on, cutting overlap with the mover pack to ~52% (vs ~74% for the standard wide net). Keeps a real edge (~56% cover) at a ~3-win/yr cost. Very high variance: in the backtest it hit top-5 three times and busted three times (~$700-$3,200 range). Built as a high-ceiling SECOND entry chasing the steep part of the payout — not a safe anchor.
Stale Lines — Fade the Sharps
Quietly excellent. Biggest stale-line games; ties broken toward sides the pool's sharpest players avoid. Cashed 6 of 7 years (~$1,900/yr) — one of the most reliable.
Stale Lines — Fade ESPN Public
Reliable. Biggest stale-line games; ties broken toward sides ESPN's public avoids. Cashed 6 of 7 years (~$1,800/yr).
Stale Lines — Least Popular
Reliable. Stale-line games weighted by both how much the line moved and how few opponents pick them. Cashed 6 of 7 years (~$1,700/yr).
Stale Lines — Underdogs (Monday Hedge)
The original. 6 biggest stale-line games, underdogs first, reserves one slot for a Monday-night hedge — which slightly hurts (~$1,600/yr). The 'Skip Monday' version is better.
Hybrid Strategies
Combine stale lines with win-probability analysis
★ Stale Lines Scored by Formula
★ Recommended (the upside entry). Scores stale-line games with a formula blending win chance, spread size, underdog status, and unpopularity. Highest expected winnings (~$2,300/yr) and finished top-3 three times — but streaky, with two blow-up years. The big-money engine.
Best Win Probability, Stale Lines First
Steady anchor option. Ranks all games by win chance, but stale-line games always come first. Never blew up (~$1,700/yr, cashed 5 of 7).
3 Stale Lines + 3 Best Win Probability
Balanced. Guarantees 3 stale-line picks plus 3 highest-win-chance picks from the rest of the slate. Never blew up (~$1,700/yr).
Stale Lines + Best Backup Picks
Consistent but capped. Stale-line games first, then fills remaining slots with the highest-win-chance games. Never blew up but rarely finishes high enough for big money (~$1,500/yr) — which is why it's no longer the top pick.
Win Probability Strategies
Pick games most likely to beat the spread
Best Win Probability (Any Game)
Solid. Ranks every game by win chance — not just stale lines — adjusting for divisional games and underdogs. ~$1,700/yr, but had one bad year (77th in 2024).
Best Win Probability (Stale Lines Only)
Picks the 6 stale-line games with the highest win chance. Cashes often but payouts are modest (~$1,400/yr).
High Win Probability, Low Popularity
Streaky. Stale-line games above a win-chance bar, sorted by unpopularity. ~$1,200/yr but blew up badly once (129th in 2024).
Win Probability ÷ Popularity
Volatile. Favors games with high win chance relative to how few people pick them. Leans too contrarian (~$1,050/yr, two blow-up years).
Contrarian Strategies
Fade the public — generally weak; only Reverse Line Movement keeps a real edge
Reverse Line Movement (Sharp Fade)
Reverse line movement / sharp fade — picks the moved-line games the public is fading most (lowest ownership on the side the line moved toward). Unlike the other contrarian strategies it keeps the full mover edge (~58%), making it the one defensible contrarian play (~$980/yr). Catch: it overlaps ~80% with the other mover strategies, so it's a 'fade the public' flavor rather than a true diversifier — it doesn't beat the recommended pair.
Unpopular Underdog Stale Lines
⚠ Misleading money figure. Only underdog stale-line games, least-popular first. Its ~$1,800/yr comes from two lucky finishes — it actually cashed just 3 of 7 years and blew up twice. Unreliable.
Least Popular Games
Avoid — the worst. Just picks the 6 least-popular games. Maximum differentiation, but the field avoids bad games for good reason (~$340/yr).
Unpopular Underdogs
Avoid. Underdogs only, least-popular first, ignores line movement. Cashed just 2 of 7 years (~$900/yr).
MNF Hedge ON: Both entries include a Monday Night game. If both are 5-0 going into Monday, they pick opposite sides for a guaranteed 6-0 ($675 bonus). OFF: Monday Night competes on merit.
